NGO 'Friendship' gets 300,000 Euro grant to help cyclone-hit people

The NGO 'Friendship' has been awarded a 300,000 Euro grant by the French ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to help families affected by the Sidr cyclone.
Friendship has been on site since November 16 and has an excellent record for its activities on health, sanitation, relief and rehabilitation.
Friendship has also benefited from a two-week mission by six doctors from the French NGO "Helpdoctors" whose air tickets were provided by the French Embassy, and from a US$100,000 grant from TOTAL E&P Bangladesh and TOTALGAS Bangladesh, a French company active in Bangladesh.
The other French NGOs present in Bangladesh, Handicap, ACE and Partenaires, also have organised relief operations, which will amount to some 500,000 euros.
The French company Degremont-Suez Environnement, active in water sanitation in Bangladesh, has given two water filtration units worth around 100.000 euros to the Bangladeshi Army and has sent two technicians to help for a week.
Eight other French NGOs have sent teams and are now beginning their operations. Among them, the Islamic Relief France has pledged 200,000 euros for Bangladesh and the NGO Solidarités is mobilizing 240,000 euros in connection with the French company Véolia (water sanitation).
Altogether, France, French citizens and French companies are mobilizing around 1.4 million euros to help the Sidr victims.
France already gave one million euros to Bangladesh to help the 2007 flood victims through three NGO: Friendship, ACF and Handicap International.
A press conference was held at Hotel La Vinci in the city on Thursday on the French aid after Sidr cyclone.
