The National Garments Workers’ Federation (NGWF) on Sunday urged the government and garment factory owners to provide international standard training to workers for coping with the global recession.
The leaders of NGWF in a statement said workers in this sector are lacking in technical knowledge of the industry, which is affecting overall production.
They also demanded a share from the government's stimulus package for the garment workers, who have been the most affected group by the recession.
The NGWF also raised seven-point demands and urged the government and owners associations to implement the demands immediately to sustain ongoing growth in the sector. The demands include introducing food rationing, providing medical facilities, constructing flats on khas land for garment workers.
