NID mandatory for buying launch tickets during Eid
Launch operators urged not to charge extra from passengers

The government decided on Sunday that National Identity (NID) cards as mandatory for purchasing launch tickets during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr for ensuring a safe and hassle-free journey for the passengers.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury came up with the disclosure while presiding over a meeting on safe journey of the passengers and launch management during the festival.
"The passengers will have to show national identity (NID) cards to buy tickets for launch journey during Eid vacation," he told the media after the meeting, held at the conference room of the shipping ministry.
He said that the decision will come into effect just five days before the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr and will continue until issuing further notice.
He also said that the safety of the passengers would be strictly followed and ensured before and after the Eid.
He urged the launch operators not to charge extra money from the passengers during the Eid vacation.
"We are going to enforce this just five days before the Eid-ul-Fitr. It will be continued until the issuance of further notice for ensuring passengers' safety and security and ensuring discipline in the sector," he stated.
"We will be tougher after the Eid," he asserted.
Mr Khalid Mahmud said that speed boats and sand carrying bulkheads would not ply (in rivers and other waterways) at night during the Eid holidays.
He also stated that empty trucks and covered vans would not be allowed to use ferries during, before and after the three days' of Eid holidays.
He further said that only goods laden trucks would use ferries during the Eid holidays.
Replying to a query he said the Eid vacation for readymade garment (RMG) workers will start from April 27 just to avoid hassle and huge rush.
