Nike executive sees popularity of brand products on rise

Footwear market in Bangladesh is growing with consumers looking to 'brand products', said Business Development Manager of Nike Singapore Private Limited Sabrina Hong.
He was opening 'Nike Summer 2008 Collection' corner at the Gulshan outlet of Bata Bangladesh in the city recently, said a press release.
With an overwhelming response, Bata Bangladesh has brought a fresh new range of Nike collections. Last month Bata has tied up with Nike Singapore Private Limited to sell the shoe products through different outlets in the city.
The popularity of brand products is on rise and new middle class consumers have emerged in Bangladesh over the years. They are prospective buyers, Sabrina Hong said while talking to press after the inauguration ceremony.
"Initially we have set a target of selling 2,500 pairs of Nike shoes and some 5,000 shoes next year," Sabrina Hong stated.
Managing Director of Bata Bangladesh Doug Hearns said the company's turnover grew by 20 per cent in retail and 15 per cent in wholesale markets in 2007.
Among others, Bata Bangladesh's Marketing Manager MA Qader, Retail Manager SAM Yousuf, Advertisement and Promotions Manager Zahidul Huda and Brand Manager Iraz H Siddiqui were also present on theoccasion.
