TOKYO, May 29 (Reuters): Japan's Nikkei average rose 1.3 per cent Friday in its best one-day performance for two weeks as exporter shares climbed on a halt in the yen's advance, but investors remained jittery and profit-taking limited gains.
Sony Corp climbed 1.8 per cent to 2,838 yen and Canon Inc advanced 1.6 per cent to 3,740 yen, while TDK rose 1.5 per cent to 5,340 yen. But all had pared their earlier gains.
The benchmark Nikkei gained 123.26 points to 9,762.98, while the broader Topix rose one per cent to 878.52.
