Niloy murder: Nahian, Masud reveal names of several suspects

Monday, 17 August 2015

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has got several suspected names of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) members, who might be involved in blogger Niladri Chatterjee alias Niloy Neel murder. Detained Sad Al Nahian and Masud Rana, two suspected active members of the banned Islamic outfit ABT, who are now being interrogated by the detectives in connection with Niloy killing, revealed the names to the police during interrogation, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam has said. Talking to reporters on Sunday afternoon, Monirul Islam said Nahian and Masud disclosed names of several ABT members who might be involved in Niloy’s killing. Besides, they also got names of several suspects involved in the killing, the joint commissioner said. He said they are scrutinising the names. “Hopefully the killers will be arrested soon.” However, the two arrested are yet to confess about their involvement in the killing, Monir added. Police claimed that State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu’s nephew Nahian was held at Uttara and Rana at Mirpur’s Kalshi on Aug 13. But Nahian’s family claimed he was whisked away from their Uttara residence by some people, who identified themselves as DB police, six days ago. But the police officials said that Nahin was picked up from Uttara and Rana from Mirpur’s Kalshi on Thursday. Niloy was hacked to death at his flat in Dhaka’s East Goran on August 7. His wife and sister-in-law, who were inside the home at the time, told both police and media that four youths took part in the killing. Police are yet to confirm whether Nahian and Masud were among those four. A Dhaka court on Friday placed Nahian and Masud on an eight-day remand each in connection with Niloy’s murder, according to a news agency.
