Nine camel jockeys given compensation

CHANDPUR, June 29 (UNB): Nine poor children, who worked as camel jockeys in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were given a total of Tk 0.93 million as compensation.
Official sources said a cheque of Tk 0.10 million was handed over to each child at a simple ceremony at Deputy Commissioner's conference room Thursday afternoon.
Of the nine boys, five hailed from Faridganj Upazila while two each from Haimchar and Matlab South upazilas.
Officials said the UAE government is providing the compensation for the rehabilitation of the poor camel jockeys.
