Nine deaths, 656 new Covid cases reported

Both the death toll due to Covid-19 and the virus caseloads increased slightly in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported nine deaths from coronavirus and 656 new cases during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on the day.
The figures were three and 521 respectively on Monday, according to the DGHS data.
With the latest daily counts, the total fatalities from corovirus reached 29,212 since the virus was detected first in the country in March 2020.
A total of 4,761 samples were tested against 4,799 samples were collected across the country during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Tuesday.
The Covid-19 test positivity rate also inched up to 13.78 per cent on the day from the previous day's 13.18 per cent, the DGHS data revealed.
A total of 1,542 more people recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the last 24-hour reporting time.
The rate of recovery from the coronavirus disease was reported at 96.22 per cent on the day.
On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from Covid-19 also remained static at 1.47 per cent.
According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases have crossed 1.99 million in Bangladesh and more than 1.95 million of them had recovered from the deadly disease.
On the other hand, over 13.45 million samples have been tested across the country since the virus was detected in the country.
Globally the overall number of Covid cases has now surpassed 561 million amid a rise in new infections in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 561,576,746 and the death toll from the virus reached 6,374,568 Tuesday morning.
The US has recorded 90,491,960 cases so far and 1,046,232 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India reported 16,678 fresh cases in 24 hours amid fears of new Covid-19 sub-variants, taking the total tally to 43,639,329, as per the federal health ministry data released Monday.
With this, the number of active cases in the country rose to 130,713.
According to the ministry, 26 new Covid-related deaths have also been recorded, pushing the overall toll to 525,454 in the country.
