Nine die in road crashes in three districts

Three of a family perish, four in train-bus collision

Nine people were killed and 18 others were injured in separate accidents in Gazipur, Cumilla and Tangail districts, reports UNB.
In Gazipur, four people were killed and eight others injured when a train hit a bus on an unauthorised railway level crossing at Sreepur of Gazipur district on Sunday morning, said police.
One of the deceased was identified as Rahima Khatun Priya (22), a worker of Zaman Fashion Wears Ltd and wife of Julhas Mia of Baliapara village in the upazila while the identity of the others could not be known yet.
Sripur Railway Station Master Harun-ur-Rashid said Netrakona-bound 'Balaka Express' train from Dhaka hit the bus carrying RMG workers on Maijhpara railway level crossing around 7:15 am, leaving one dead on the spot and eleven others injured.
Among the injured, three died on way to a local hospital. The other injured were admitted to a local hospital.
Gazipur deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman visited the spot.
A three-member probe body, headed by Additional District Magistrate, has been formed to look into the accident.
In Cumilla, three people including a couple were killed as a private car carrying them crashed into a roadside tree on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Illiotganj area of the district Sunday.
The dead are Gias Uddin Mahmud Farazi, an employee of Feni land office, his wife Jahanara Begum and Jahanara's sister Salma Akter.
Premdhan Majumdar, in-charge of Illiotganj highway police camp, said the accident occurred around 7:00 am when the private car driven by Gias Uddin hit a roadside tree and fell into a roadside ditch amid a heavy downpour, leaving all of the three dead on the spot.
In Tangali, drivers of a bus and a truck were killed and 10 people injured in a collision between the two vehicles on Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway at Kalihati upazila in the district in the early hours of Sunday, said police.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Jilkad Hossain, sub inspector (SI) of Bangabandhu Bridge East thana, said the accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the northern region-bound truck from Dhaka crashed into a bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' coming from the opposite direction in Soilla area, leaving the drivers dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, another pickup van hit the damaged truck after its driver lost control over the steering; he said, adding, a long tailback on the both sides of the busy highway was created due to the accident.
The injured were rushed to Tangail sadar hospital, the SI added.
