The state-run manpower bureau has taken up steps to bring home nine out of 36 Bangladeshi workers stranded in Liberia for allegedly attempting to sneak into a European country, officials said Tuesday.
Officials at the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) said air tickets were sent to Liberia only for the workers who went there through eight private recruiting agencies.
"Eight recruiting agencies have paid for the air ticket. The nine workers are expected to return to the country today (Wednesday)," a BMET official said.
Some 36 Bangladeshi workers were detained last month by the Liberian anti-human trafficking force while loitering in an unnamed location in the African country and are now under the supervision of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
