Ninth BIID expo kicks off Mar 1

The four-day long International Bangladesh Infrastructure Innovation and Development Expo and Dialogue-2018 (BIID) will kick off in the capital on March 1.
Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources will organise the event in cooperation with Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) and Power Cell, Power Division, to meet sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure development demands.
Bangabandhu International Conference Centre-BICC will host the ninth version of the international exposition which is scheduled to end on March.
At the press conference, the organicers said the country needs to meet the power and energy demands in order to keep the sustainable GDP growth at 7 per cent or above.
Power Division's Additional Secretary and SREDA Chairman Md Helal Uddin made the announcement at a press conference at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh on Sunday.
The motto of the event is to build the country with power saving machinery, power efficiency and environment-friendly development to meet the target of becoming middle-income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041, said the SREDA chairman.
At the event, a total of 143 national and international companies from 14 countries including Bangladesh will participate with their latest and energy-saving innovations and projects. Two seminars and technical session will be held each day of the four-day expo.
About 60 local and internationally-acclaimed specialists will deliver speech at these seminars including from World Bank, ADB and JAICA.
Besides, about 2500 entrepreneurs in industrial sector, technical specialists and international donor organisations will also participate at the event.
Apart from these, products and innovations will also be displayed at the event including energy saving and environment-friendly industrial products, electricity saving innovations, solar technologies and green infrastructure development ideas.
Bangladesh needs to meet the power and energy demands in order to keep the sustainable GDP growth at 7 per cent or above, observed the event organisers.
Besides, energy saving awareness also needs to be spread among people to meet the goal which is one of the prime objectives of the expo, they said.
Government has already taken some initiatives to save energy which include tax lifting from commercial production of renewable energy for five years, they mentioned.
The BIID Expo and Dialogue is focused on Basement of Intelligent Industrialisation, which emphases on Sustainable Infrastructure and Green Building Construction, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, Environment Protection, Green Financing and Safety together.
Director of Power Division (power cell) Sheikh Munir Ahmed, principle consultant and brand ambassador of BIID Dildar Ahmed Tawfiqe and BIFFL acting director SM Farmanul Islam were present, at the press conference, among others.
