Saturday, 13 September 2008

BNP standing committee members M Saifur Rahman and Mahbubur Rahman met with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Friday afternoon, reports bdnews24.com.
The two leaders, known as 'reformists', went to Khaleda's Shaheed Moinul Road residence in the city at 4:00pm to meet the former premier following Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami's 'exclusive' talks with the BNP chairperson earlier Thursday night, a source close to the former premier said.
A BNP leader close to Khaleda said, "Saifur Rahman and former army chief Mahbubur Rahman held a meeting with Khaleda for about one hour."
Earlier the two leaders spoke to her and fixed time for the meeting, an assistant at the former prime minister's residence said.
However, her exclusive meeting with Nizami Thursday night followed the former prime minister's statement hours earlier that she would join both electoral dialogue and the general elections planned for December.
"BNP and the four-party combine will fight the elections together and again form the government," she told party colleagues at the party's Naya Paltan central office Thursday afternoon after her release earlier.
Both parties boycotted the latest rounds of talks with the government and the Election Commission prior to Khaleda's release on bail.
The source, who refused to be named, said the Jamaat chief drove to her Mainul Road residence late evening.
No other aides were known to have joined their meeting, said the source at her Mainul Road residence.
Khaleda's lawyer Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas Friday said the former prime minister offered prayers Friday. Her two sisters-in law (brothers' wives), their children and other relatives also met with Khaleda.
