Nizami, Sayedee\\\'s Eid at Kashimpur

Several leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, including war crimes convicts Delwar Hossain Sayedee and Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, have spent this Eid-ul-Azha at Dhaka Central Jail at Kashimpur in Gazipur district. According to jail authorities, there are 990 prisoners in Dhaka Central Jail Part-1, 1,950 in Part-2, around 1,500 in High Security Jail and 150 in Central Women’s Jail at Kashimpur. The inmates at Dhaka Central Jail Part-1 include Sayedee, who has been jailed unto death on war crimes charges, four prisoners having division status, including senior BNP leader Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, and 80 on death row. Dhaka Central Jail Part-1 Jailor Amzad Hossain Don said three Eid congregations were held in the prison. Part-2 Superintendent Md Jahangir Kabir said the inmates in the jail included 100 death-row convicts. Among division prisoners there are Amar Desh newspaper acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, Col Ehsan, Maj Mukit, and Jamaat leaders ATM Azharul Islam and Mir Quasem Ali. Three Eid congregations were held in the Dhaka Central Jail Part-2. Kashimpur High Security Jail Superintendent Mizanur Rahman said the prison was accommodating 570 death-row convicts, including Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami who was convicted in 10-truck arms haul case. There are four division prisoners in the jail, including Maj Zakir Hossain, Barrister Md Fakhrul and India’s United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia. Two Eid congregations were held at the High Security Jail. An official at Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail said inmates at the prison include eight death-row convicts. Jail authorities said special foods are being offered to the inmates and cultural programmes arranged at the prisons on the Eid day, according to bdnews24.com.
