Nizami verdict deferred on Delhi\\\'s advice: BNP
Tuesday, 24 June 2014
The BNP says the verdict on Jamaat-e-Islami leader Matiur Rahman Nizami’s war crimes has been deferred on the advice of a neighbouring country. ‘One of my well-wishers said that New Delhi has insisted that the verdict can’t be delivered today (Tuesday) as the Indian foreign minister is coming tomorrow (Wednesday),’ senior BNP leader ASM Hannan Shah told a discussion in the city today. ‘Everything in Bangladesh now is controlled from the neighbouring country, from the South Block,’ he said. According to the BNP leader, a strike during the Indian foreign minister’s visit would spoil the relation between the government and India. Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj is expected to reach Dhaka on Wednesday on a 3-day visit. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT) was set to pronounce the verdict in war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islmai Ameer Matiur Rahman on Tuesday, but it was deferred as the prison authorities informed that he was physically unfit to be produced in the court, according to bdnews24.com.
