No alternative to accurate statistics for proper planning: speakers

Speakers at a meeting have said there is no alternative to accurate, authentic, reliable and timely statistics for proper planning, designing, monitoring and evaluating development plans at all levels. Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) organised the regular day-long meeting of the Standing Committee on Census/Survey of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) at the conference room of RCC mayor in the northern divisional city on Sunday.
The meeting discussed about launching census on number of technical and vocational education and training institutions, number of students studying there and recently concluded census on status and situation of women in the city.
With city panel mayor Abul Kashem in the chair, its Secretary Fazlul Kabir delivered welcome speech in the meeting and narrated the progress achieved so far in conducting census on various sectors by RCC with BBS assistance in the city.

Joint Director of Rangpur Divisional Office Nasir Uddin Ahmed, its Deputy Director Ala Uddin Al Azad and Deputy Director of the National Strategy for Development of Statistics (NSDS) Md. Kamruzzaman addressed the meeting.

The City Councilors, who are members of the Standing Committee on
Census/Survey of Rangpur City Corporation, its officials, information
registrars and supervisors attended and addressed the meeting.

Joint Director of Rangpur Divisional Office Nasir Uddin Ahmed narrated the progress already achieved by BBS in collection of information, conducting census and preparing statistics on various sectors to further speed up national development.

The speakers stressed for collecting accurate information and statistics on population, households, agriculture, economy, women and children, health and nutrition, literacy and education and other sectors, for proper planning of development works.

They put emphasis on further enhancing skill of information registrars and supervisors of RCC involved with collecting information needed for preparing and presenting various statistics, and asked them to apply their expertise professionally and correctly.

The City Panel Mayor asked the registrars and supervisors for working with utmost sincerity in collecting accurate statistics and put emphasis on necessity of presenting the socioeconomic activities and successes through correct statistics,, according to a news agency.
