No alternative to mid-term poll : Hannan Shah

Saturday, 9 April 2011

BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah has said there is no alternative to mid-term election as the government has 'failed' to address pressing public issues, reports bdnews24.com. "This government is not pro-people. It does not care about problems like the rising price of essential commodities and power and gas crises. So there is no alternative to midterm election," Hannan Shah said this while speaking at a seminar on "Power Crisis: Bangladesh's Development Perspective" organised by Forum of Diploma Engineers in the city Friday. He said a vigorous street movement would be launched under the leadership of BNP chief Khaleda Zia. Hannan Shah questioned the sincerity of the government in solving the power crisis and accused it of 'frequently lying' over the power situation. "The government claims that 1,500MW electricity has been added to the national grid. If it is true, why power outages still happen?" He alleged that the government was working on a single agenda-to destroy the economy by serving the purposes of 'a neighbouring country', alluding to India. The opposition leader also accused the government of plundering billions of taka from the capital market.
