No bar in arresting lawmaker Rana

Thursday, 11 December 2014

The Appellate Division (AD) of the Supreme Court (SC) has removed all bars from arresting Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, MP, for his alleged involvement in the killing of Awami League (AL) leader and Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed, reports BSS.
The AD did so through staying an earlier order passed by the High Court (HC) for not harassing or arresting Rana without following the due legal process.
The five-member AD bench led by Chief Justice Md. Muzammel Hossain stayed the HC order Wednesday.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said after the AD order, there is no legal bar in arresting the accused including Rana.
Following a writ petition filed by the lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, the HC on September 17 had directed the law enforcing agencies not to harass or arrest Rana.
Police recovered the bullet-riddled body of Faruk, a member of Tangail district unit of Awami League, from College Para area in Tangail on January 18, 2013. His wife lodged a case with Tangail Sadar Police Station in this regard.
