No bar to holding bank recruitment tests today

Friday, 12 January 2018

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed a High Court order that halted the recruitment process for three posts of state-owned Sonali Bank, Rupali Bank and Janata Bank, report agencies.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Syed Mahmud Hossain came up with the order after hearing a petition filed by Bangladesh Bank.
Now, there is no bar to hold recruitment test of the three state -owned banks today (Friday), said Mosarraf Hossain, member secretary of Bankers Selection Committee (BSC).
The High Court on Sunday halted entry tests for nationalised Sonali, Rupali and Janata banks following a petition challenging last year's job circulars issued by eight banks.
That postponed the January 12 written tests to recruit senior officers, officers and cash officers for eight state-owned banks, including the three state-owned lenders, lawyers had said at the time.
The High Court stayed the recruitment process following a writ petition filed by 28 candidates who applied for the different posts of Sonali Bank as per the circular issued in 2016.
The three banks issued a circular for recruitment test in 2016.
Without holding the test, Bankers Selection Association issued a combined circular in 2017 for holding recruitment test of eight state banks including the three, for the posts of senior officer, officer and cash officer.
The test for the post of senior officer was scheduled to be held on January 12.
