No compassion with graft: CJ
Saturday, 31 December 2011
Chief Justice (CJ) M Mozammel Hossain Friday said no protection will be given or compassion shown against any corruption in the judiciary, reports UNB.
"My position against corruption is clear and firm," he said while addressing a meeting with the district judges and other equivalent judges at the Judges Lounge of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice said many statements were issued against corruption in subordinate courts and many surveys conducted on conjecture, and published
those in newspapers or articles written.
Justice Mozammel said he takes serious note of any corruption allegation because there is no room for corruption in the judiciary.
He said: "Corruption breeds injustice. Corruption at one place is a threat to justice at all places."
The Chief Justice said he would not take into cognizance any false and harassing allegations against the judges, but would certainly take into cognizance any reasonable allegations of corruption.
In such cases, he said an appropriate judge will inquire into the complaints and if those are found to be true, tough action will be taken against the judges or court employees concerned.
The Chief Justice said mass people have unflinching trust on honesty, capability and neutrality, and to gain this trust of the common people judges will have to possess high moral values and strong character.
