No election sans caretaker govt, reiterates BNP
FE REPORT | Friday, 1 September 2023
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has once again reiterated that it would not participate in the next general election without a neutral caretaker government.
"If anybody thinks that the next election will be held under the ruling Awami League, they're just dreaming. Go to streets and see public sentiment. People now ask when this government will quit," said BNP vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu.
He was addressing a discussion styled 'Restoration of Democracy and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam', marking the 45th founding anniversary of BNP at the National Press Club on Thursday.
"BNP is in the hearts of the people. So, the ruling Awami League dreads to hold the elections under a caretaker government," stated Mr Dudu.
The BNP leader said the government enacted the Digital Security Act just to annihilate the nationalist party BNP.
"BNP speaks truths, takes stand with the people, protests against injustice and remains vocal against corruption," he uttered.
Mr Dudu said whenever opponents speak against the ruling Awami League, it resorts to file cases against the dissenting groups.
The Awami League enacted the Digital Security Act to keep its opponents from making criticism.
"Bangladesh was created for ensuring democracy and people's rights," he mentioned.
