No fender, yet no tender

Friday, 8 April 2011

The front-page lead article in your April 2 issue illustrates the utter failure of the Chittagong Port Trust (CPT) authority's responsibility in doing their duty. They are all now silent to media queries. The lame excuse offered on their behalf by an 'un-named' official of the 'traffic department' that 'long time is needed' to procure the fender, and have it in place! Meanwhile, port traffic and revenues will go down which does not bother the CPT 'Boss'! CPT, naturally as directed by the 'Boss', remains silent. But why? May be the 'Boss' has no clue about 'fenders' and the matter is still as usual lying 'pending' while traffic and revenues take a dive. Who cares? Least of all, the boss who had 'parachuted' to the position, from elsewhere. This is CPT's 'Wall of Silence' to fend off nosy newspaper reporters looking for the facts. If only CPT could cut their noses. They 'care a fig' for their incompetency and incapability for getting the necessary job done in time. They are least bothered for the damage to cargo vessel's hull; as they do not have to pay for the hull repairs. Further, less berthing means lesser work while the pay and 'perks' remain fully intact. It seems that they are above question. As the people's representative, will the Shipping Minister kindly come out with the facts and take the Chairman, CPT to task for
