No headway in Farooqi murder probe

Police are yet to make any headway into the murder of Islamic Front leader Maulana Nurul Islam Farooqi. ‘The motive for murder is still unclear,’ detective police’s Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam said on Sunday afternoon. Islami Chhatra Sena enforced a nationwide half-day hartal (shutdown) protesting against the killing of Farooqi, also the anchor of popular religious programmes on two private television channels. Farooqi, also a central leader of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, was hacked to death by some miscreants in his house in East Rajabazar in Dhaka on August 27. His son Faisal Farooqi filed a murder case against several unknown persons on the night of the killing with Sher-e-Bangla police. ‘It's a really sensitive incident, different from other killings,’ police officer Alam said. He said anything from differences in ideals to clashes over business and family feud could be the motive. ‘We want to continue investigation considering every possibility,’ according to bdnews24.com.
