No investments without power

Friday, 28 August 2009

The situation with power is so bad now that the entire business community is wailing to get the government's attention to their demand for improving power supply. The government recently declared monetary and fiscal policies that should sound sweet on the ears of potential investors for their greater tax breaks and other forms of encouragement to the private sector.
But the usefulness of such policies or their capacity to inspire the investors or entrepreneurs are seriously in doubt for the simple reason of the poor power supply. Entrepreneurs are unlikely to risk their monies in building new industrial capacities if the same cannot be run from lack of power. Many newly established industries as well as services have already met such a fate which sent a powerful negative signal to investors not to invest until the power supply conditions show definite signs of improvement. Thus, the country's economic growth remains on a hold from the inability to supply the needed amount of power.
