No kings, queens in democracy: Inu
Friday, 27 February 2015
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Thursday there are no kings and queens in a democracy. Nobody is above the law and that includes Khaleda and Tarique, reports BSS.
Those who want to keep them above the law are trying to nurture the demons of fire-terrorism, the minister said.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Ram Krishna Mission marking the 180th birth of Sree Ram Krishna Dev. He also unveiled the cover of 'Uddipan'-a magazine commemorating the 150th birth of Swami Vivekananda.
The minister further said there is no place for criminals in a democracy. The place for criminals is prison. If criminals remain at large they pose a danger to democracy.
"Those who say that if Khaleda is arrested democracy will be undermined are basically considering her as royalty," he said.
"Rule of law is a precondition for peace," he added.
Reflecting on Ram Krishna Dev's philosophy, he said, "His philosophy has inspired us to work together for peace."
