No more than 7 seats for allies, says Quader

FE REPORT | Saturday, 16 December 2023

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has ruled out possibility of sharing more than seven seats with its 14-party political allies in the 12th parliamentary elections, scheduled for January 7 next.
"…we (AL) have informed them (allies) that 'boat' symbol can be sacrificed in seven constituencies. But it is not possible for us to do more than that," Mr. Quader said on Friday.
He was briefing reporters at the AL president's Dhanmondi office in the city, a day after his party announced that its political partners would be given seven seats to be contested with 'boat' symbol.
On Thursday, coordinator of the 14-party alliance Amir Hossain Amu made the announcement that three of AL's political allies would get the shared seats.
Responding to a question as to whether AL's political allies wanted any guarantee' for win in the elections, Mr. Quader said the AL could not give such guarantee to anyone. "Being the general secretary of Awami League I have no guarantee of winning as four candidates are fighting against me," he said.
Meanwhile, the political allies had expressed their dissatisfaction over the AL's seat-sharing decision, it was learnt.
