No move to control media: Inu

Friday, 25 July 2014

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu claimed Thursday that there has been no government initiative to control the media or curtailing their independence, reports UNB.
''The Printing Presses and Publication Act, 1973 is not being amended but an initiative has been taken to update the act and make it time-befitting one," he told a press briefing in the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID).
Terming misleading the media reports over government move to revive a controversial provision in the Printing Presses and Publication Act, 1973, he said, "I believe in the uninterrupted flow of information and it will be reflected on my works."
According to a January-1 cabinet meeting decision, an eight-member committee headed by an additional secretary of the Information Ministry was formed for updating the act and it was asked to submit its recommendations after discussing with stakeholders within six months, he said.
