FE REPORT
The 718MW JERA Meghnaghat Power Ltd (JMPL) continues operation in accordance with instructions from the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), says a company statement. JMPL issued the statement Thursday, a day after a fire incident at its officers' canteen in the dormitory building of its power plant.
On Wednesday, at approximately 12:30pm, a fire incident took place, said the statement.
A total of 12 individuals were affected by the incident, including four personnel from a third-party service provider working in the kitchen area and eight JMPL personnel who were present in the canteen at the time, the statement added.
JMPL immediately activated its emergency response protocol, and all affected individuals were transported using the in-house ambulance and plant vehicles to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, where they are currently receiving medical treatment, the statement added.
JMPL's utmost priority remains supporting those affected by the incident.
It is working with the authorities to extend its full assistance to ensure the best possible care to the affected individuals and their families.
As the incident occurred in a separate area from the main power plant building, there has been no impact on plant operations.
An official investigation is currently ongoing, and JMPL is actively cooperating with the relevant authorities and agencies.
Preliminary reports by the authorities suggest that the incident may have been caused by an LPG gas leakage from a stove, said the statement.
