No opposition in Parliament: TIB

Tuesday, 18 March 2014

The Jatiya Party is not able to play the role of the opposition in the 10th Parliament, says the Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB). TIB expects the 10th parliament would not run its full term -- only then, it says, the country can get an active opposition. “There is no opposition in this parliament. There is a ruling party. What we mean by the opposition is not there,” TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said while placing its ‘Watch Report on the Ninth Parliament’ on Tuesday. On the role of the Jatiya Party, Iftekharuzzaman said, “Literally they are the Opposition party. But we cannot see them playing that role in the House,” the TIB executive director said. TIB Trustee M Hafizuddin Khan said, “The Opposition should be as it should be. They should not be a part of the government,” according to bdnews24com.
