This year's Primary Education Completion (PEC) and equivalent examinations have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, reports BSS.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the proposal for cancellation of PEC and equivalent examinations," State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen told journalists at a briefing Tuesday.
Senior secretary of the ministry Akram-Al-Hossain was present at the briefing.
The PEC and its equivalent examinations for class five were scheduled for November and around three million students were expected to sit for the examinations.
Zakir said if schools are reopened this year, the fifth graders can seat for annual examinations at their own institutions.
On August 19, the ministry sent a proposal to the Prime Minister seeking her approval to cancel this year's PEC and its equivalent Ibtedayi Education Completion exams.
The government declared closure of all educational institutions on March 17 to contain the spread of the coronavirus and later, the closure was extended to August 31.
