No plans to make Jamuna River narrow

WDB tells HC

The Bangladesh Water Development Board (WDB) on Sunday informed the High Court that it has no plan to make the Jamuna River narrow.
Lawyer Arobinda Kumar Roy representing the WDB said this at the court citing from the documents of a Jamuna River project during the hearing of a writ petition.
The 'Jamuna River Sustainable Management Project-1' has been initiated in consultation with the Prime Minister's economic affairs adviser and World Bank officials, the lawyer said, adding that the project is now at the initial stage and that dredging and embankment construction work is yet to get approval from the authorities concerned.
After the hearing, the HC bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam said the court will pass an order on the petition on Monday.
On May 28, the HC bench ordered the WDB to submit relevant documents regarding the proposal within 10 days.
The writ petition was filed by some Supreme Court lawyers on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
