Sunday, 2 September 2007

Justice Habibur Rahman, head of the one-member Judicial Inquiry Commission formed to probe the Aug 20-21 incidents on the Dhaka University campus, Saturday said no proof has so far been found that teachers provoked the student unrest. "No proof has been found to date that teachers provoked the students into staging demonstrations," the Commission chief told reporters. The retired judge of the Supreme Court said if the dormitories of the university were reopened, it would be helpful for conducting the inquiry smoothly. Five teachers, including DU pro-VC Prof Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, who was acting VC during the campus agitation, and former VC Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury testified to the commission. —UNB
