No question of emergency, PM tells parliament

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday blasted the opposition leader Khaleda Zia for her comments that Awami League government is out to announce emergency and ruled out outright her speculation of declaring the emergency, reports BSS.
"Awami League believes in people's empowerment as they (people) are the source of all power and the party assumed power democratically. So, there is no question of enforcing emergency. Why we declare emergency and whatever situation has been created in the country that the government would declare the emergency," she said while delivering her valedictory speech in the House.
"It is my doubt that Khaleda Zia herself is hatching a plot to bring emergency in the country and that is why she announced anti- government movement," she said, adding that the BNP chief wanted to create such a situation that warrants bringing emergency."
The Leader of the House said it is the BNP, which remains well during the emergency and martial law as it was born in the pocket of the military dictator. "Ziaur Rahman had first promulgated marital law, while President Professor Iajuddin Ahmed declared emergency," she said urging the opposition leader not to create panic about emergency.
Hasina said Khaleda Zia had paved the way for bringing martial law during the rule of President Abdus Sattar by opposing him. "You did not get anything after the fall of President Sattar as Ershad did not share power with you," she said.
She said the people are ready to face any situation and whatever efforts Khaleda Zia undertook she will not be able to save the war criminals and their trial must be held on the soils of the country.
The Leader of the House said December is the month of our victory and the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered to the Bangalees in this month. "But it is shameful for us that Khaleda Zia has declared anti-government movement in this month to save the war criminals.
She said the people would judge how Khaleda Zia has declared anti-government movement to protect the persons who committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.
The Prime Minister said with whom Khaleda Zia had formed the 18-party alliance. "She formed the alliance with the killers, attackers of police and fugitive accused and she held rally with the robbers, killers and war criminals Wednesday," Hasina alleged.
