No respite from price hike
Wednesday, 17 June 2015
The prices of essentials have already registered a sharp rise, putting the fixed income people under severe stress. Every year the commerce ministry assures people that the prices will remain stable, but we do not see the promises being materialized as the holy month of Ramadan progresses. Instead of requesting the traders not to increase the prices, the government should ensure adequate supply of the necessary items during Ramadan so that the traders do not have the opportunity to demand higher prices.
I am from a middle class family and I feel scared as Ramadan approaches. I am not alone, most of the people feel the same way as the unusual price hike lashes them down. I believe if the government exercises its authority, prices of essentials can be kept under control. Sadly, we hardly see any effective steps from the government in this direction, as a result of which prices of essentials shoot up beyond the capacity of common people. The traders who are hoarding every essential commodity are behind these public sufferings should be severely dealt with. Common people should not be subjected to further hardships. The government should look at how other countries including our neighbours, are tackling such situations.
