No scope of transport fare hike in Eid: Road minister

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 17 March 2026

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has dismissed the allegations of transport fare hike, citing that sufficient fuel is being supplied for operating public transports during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
"Adequate fuel is being provided to all long-haul buses. There will be no crisis in public transport during the Eid journey," he told the media after an inspection at Mohakhali Bus Terminal in the city on Monday.
About fare hike of public transports during the festival, he said, "There is absolutely no scope for increasing fares by using fuel crisis as an excuse."
He noted that the transport operators are largely adhering to the government-fixed fares during this Eid.
"From what I have observed at Mohakhali, no transporter is charging above the set rates. In fact, many are transporting passengers at rates lower than those fixed by the government."
The minister also said the buses are entering the terminals and departing for their respective destinations in an orderly manner.
