\\\'No\\\' to fresh power price hike
Wednesday, 12 March 2014
If the government again increases price of power, it will create adverse effects on the life of common people already burdened with galloping prices of essentials. The new government has been formed two months ago and it will be a foolhardy act on the part of the ruling party if it takes such a harsh decision of raising price of power. We will see the prices of essentials taking another leap with the rising price of electricity. The government should bring order in the power sector instead of increasing electricity price and take steps to reduce corruption.
The quick rental power plants are drawing flaks from different quarters and it is high time the government brought transparency and accountability in this sector. Already a number of consumer rights groups and business chambers have rejected the price hike proposal outright. This will be the fifth hike in retail power tariff since the present government assumed office in 2009.
The opposition party is surprisingly quiet in this serious matter. We hope it will come out from hibernation and stand beside the common people who are already fed up with the frequent power price hike. Common people should show their strong disagreement on this power price hike issue so that the government does not further puts the burden on the common people and makes their life more miserable.
