CHITTAGONG, Jun 30: There had been no progress yet in the search for debris of the trainer aircraft that crashed in the sea due to rough weather on Monday.
There was no trace of the pilot of the plane Rumman Tahmid Chowdhury also. Rescuers continued to search for the Flight Lieutenant who was flying an F-7 fighter of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) on Monday morning.
The east zone officials of the coastguard said they did not find any part of the wreckage further and were facing trouble with the search due to rough weather in the sea.
Following the accident the Air Force, Navy, Coastguard and Chittagong Port Authority conducted joint rescue operations in the Bravo Anchorage area of the port and found two pieces of the aircraft on Monday afternoon.
The sea was rough. The Navy vessels Atandra, Madhumati and Surabhi along with the Coastguard ship Toufique and three metal boats continued to look for the missing pilot, said Coastguard additional commander Nurul Huda.
Cousin of Rumman Tahmid Md Hasan said members of Tahmid's family spent the whole day and night in the beach area and were trying to get update on the rescue operations.
The estuary of the Karnaphuli river was a favourite area of Tahmid but now he was lost there. He hailed from Haildhar village of Anwara, a tranquil village on the juncture of the River Karnaphuli and the River Shankha, he said.
Tahmid was the eldest of three brothers and a sister. Tahmid's father Abdul Kader Chowdhury Manik is a retired officer of a private bank. He lived his entire life in the village but took the children to Dhaka to settle there. Tahmid joined the Air Force after passing SSC examination from Comilla Ispahani School and the HSC examination from the Notre Dame College in Dhaka.
