No worry about Ebola virus: Experts

Health experts said Monday there is no reason to get panicked about Ebola virus infection in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
Doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) came up with the assurance at a scientific seminar on 'Menace of Ebola Virus: How Much Are We  Prepared?' at the BSMMU auditorium in the city.
BSMMU vice-chancellor Prof Pran Gopal Datta said, "We've adequate preparations to handle any emergency situation…there's nothing to be worried about."
Principal scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr M Mushtuq Husain said the Kurmitola General Hospital and the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) are ready to treat any possible Ebola infected patient.
Separate wards are also ready at Upazila level hospitals across the country and they have been instructed to inform the IEDCR if any patient is diagnosed with Ebola virus, he added.
BSMMU Prof Zilon Miah Sarkar said anyone is susceptible to Ebola virus if they visit Ebola-infected places, patients, animals, and insects. Infected persons should drink oral saline frequently, he said.
Professor of Microbiology and Immunology Chandan Kumar Roy said, "Health workers who collect samples from infected people should wash their hands with soap for more than one minute to avoid viral infection."
BSMMU pro-vice chancellor Prof Mohammad Shaidullah, Prof of Virology Department Saifullah Munshi, Child Hematology and Oncology expert Dr Anwarul Karim also spoke at the programme.
