Journos' accreditation card cancellation

NOAB airs grave concern

Wednesday, 20 November 2024

FE REPORT
The Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), in a meeting on Tuesday, expressed grave concern over the government's decision to cancel accreditation cards of over one hundred journalists.
The newspaper owners' platform thinks that the step presents a 'not-so-good image' of the interim government that is promise-bound to improve press freedom and expression of opinion.
"The nation does not want to go back to the dark days of the past. We, the NOAB members, consider the recent step regarding the withdrawal of accreditation cards an affront to free press."
The axe has fallen, among others, on the owner and publisher-editor of the country's oldest newspaper, the association said in a press statement.
The NOAB has earnestly requested to revive these accreditation cards immediately. "The issue requires urgent and judicious reconsideration," it added.
