Nokia Siemens Networks gears up for WiMax take off
Friday, 12 December 2008
Nokia Siemens Networks continues to execute on its strategy of building the industry's most innovative and cost-effective WiMax platform based on a flat architecture so that operators can deploy the most advanced infrastructure available, says a press release.
The company has utilised its innovative Flexi base station platform - the newest and most advanced for WiMax - to foster a flat network architecture that will yield significant savings in operational and capital expenditures and energy consumption.
As it works toward manufacturing and deployment goals for year-end 2008 and 2009 launch periods, Nokia Siemens Networks is nearing certification and interoperability milestones.
The WiMax Forum certification process for the frequency variance of 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz profiles of the industry-leading Flexi WiMax Base Station, the newest generation of BTS is under way.
Nokia Siemens Networks has over 20 WiMax references including fixed and mobile WiMax and is a partner of the world's largest WiMax operators. The most recent new mobile WiMax customers have been secured in the past two months. Additionally, the company also expects its first mobile WiMax customers to start commercial operations within this year.
To ensure an optimal user experience from both networks and devices, the company has performed and would be performing, interoperability testing (IOT) with a significant number of major terminal and chipset vendors for 2.3GHz, 2.5 GHz and also with 3.5 GHz terminals.
In network interoperability testing, Nokia Siemens Networks is working to ensure radio network interoperability with several WiMAX core network infrastructure vendors.
"We have a clear strategy to produce the industry's most advanced, cost-efficient solution and are confident in our ability to deliver the most comprehensive solution that will monetise mobile WiMax for operators," said Markku Hollstrom, head of wireless broadband, Radio Access, Nokia Siemens Networks.
