Nominations have been invited for the Standard Chartered-Financial Express Corporate Social Responsibility Award-2007.
The nominations have been invited following a decision taken in a meeting of the board of trustees of the award. Chairman of the trust Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud said: "I am pleased to see the CSR Award programme successfully stepping into its 3rd year".
"The increasing popularity of the award goes to show how strongly businesses in the country are internalising the need for responsible behaviour and good governance for their own long-term success", said StanChart CEO Osman Morad, one of the sponsors of the trust.
The Financial Express (FE) Editor AHM Moazzem Hossain said: "This is virtually a 'one-of-a-kind' award in the country. I am thankful to all our trustees and well-wishers for making the award so successful."
Standard Chartered Bank and the FE jointly sponsored the award first time in 2005 for recognising outstanding contributions of the companies to CSR activities, as reflected in the standard of business practice and not-for-profit social-welfare initiatives.
The award is administered by an independent trust, the members of which also include Hafiz GA Siddiqui, Samson H Chowdhury, Syed Manzur Elahi, Mahbubur Rahman, Yasmeen Murshed, Maj Gen (retd) Amin Ahmed Chowdhury and Ahmed Ali Shah.
The winners of the award were Dhaka Bank and Unilever Bangladesh Limited in 2005 and Aktel and Kumudini Trust in 2006.
