Non-cadre customs, VAT officials against change of designation

Saturday, 26 June 2010

FE Report
Non-cadre customs and VAT officials Friday urged the government not to change the designation of first and second class executives of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), saying such abrupt change has caused discontent among the field-level officials.
The demand came at an emergency general meeting of Bangladesh Customs Excise and VAT Executives Officers' Association at the NBR in the city.
Association president Mukhlesur Rahman Khan chaired the meeting, while its acting secretary general Khandaker Yakub Hossain also spoke, among others.
The association leaders said the decision would negatively affect the field level officials and might undermine the government's efforts for earning more from internal sources in the fiscal 2010-2011.
"The government should reconsider the issue," Khan said.
He said the posts of revenue officer and assistant revenue officer exists in many other government and semi-government offices, but their responsibility is different from that of customs and VAT (Value Added Tax) officials.
