Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta said Tuesday though the constitution of the country permits holding of meetings and public rallies, it has not given anybody the right to distort history, reports BSS.
"Distortion of history of any country goes against its people. That's why people of the country never accept distortion of history of the country. As BNP has taken stance in favour of distortion of history, it will not get people's support," he said.
Mr Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling AL, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
The Nouka Samarthak Goshthy, a body of the supporters of Awami League's poll symbol 'boat', organised the discussion on current politics at the auditorium of the Diploma Engineers Institution at Kakrail.
Adviser of the organisation Haji Mohammad Selim, MP, chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by vice-president of Dhaka City AL Faezuddin Miah, central leader of Samyabadi Dal Haroon Chowdhury, former convener of Dhaka City (South) Awami Jubo League Minhaz Uddin Mintu and secretary general of Bangabandhu Academy Humayun Kabir Mizi.
Mr Sengupta said, "The constitution has not given anybody the right to distort history of the country coming up with obnoxious remarks against Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. People of the country will never accept distortion of history in any way after 43 years of independence."
