None to accept politically motivated trial of war criminals: Delwar

Tuesday, 28 September 2010

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Monday said no one would accept the trial of war criminals if it took place to serve political purpose without trying the real war crimes and crimes against humanity, reports UNB.
"We never said that we don't want trial of war criminals. We want trial of real war criminals," Delwar told newsmen when asked about the Prime Minister's reported allegation at her speech at the 65th UNGA in New York that opposition was obstructing the trial of war criminals.
Delwar further said the allegation of the Prime Minister and her party's leaders is "very old."
The BNP leader was speaking to reporters after placing floral wreath and offering fateha at the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman, founder of the party, marking the 18th founding anniversary of Zia Sangskritik Sangstha (ZISAS).
Delwar was accompanied by the ZISAS Founder Secretary General Abul Hashem Rana and its leaders and workers.
Replying to a question over Bangladesh attaining special award of UNMDG, Delwar said the credit for Bangladesh's earning the UNMDG special award for reducing the infant mortality rate should not accrue to the government of Sheikh Hasina.
He said the real credit for the award should go to the last BNP government led by Khaleda Zia and a little bit to the last 'illegal' caretaker government.
He said Hasina only received the award as the incumbent PM.
Later, Delwar joined a human chain close to Zia's mazar premises demanding withdrawal of false cases against the party leaders and workers including Chairperson Begum Zia and Senior Vice-chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman.
