The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday convicted Forkan Mollik of Patuakhali for war crimes and condemned him to death for rapes and killings during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. Justice Obaidul Hassan, chief of ICT-2, pronoinced the verdict for the war criminal from Patuakhali district in the morning. Among the five charges against Forkan Mollik, he has been sentenced to death for two charges – rape of women and murder of civilians. “The court observed that he (Mollik) was a member of the local Razakar unit and willingly committed these crimes, especially on Hindus.” said prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal. “He raped women which is one of the most heinous crimes.” The judge said jhe will be hanged until death for rape of women and murder of civilians, according to a news agency.
