Nor’wester, lightning kill 8 in Mymensingh, Sunamganj

Seven people were killed and six others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Mymensingh and Sunamganj districts on Thursday, reports UNB.
Besides, a housewife was killed as the wall of her house collapsed during a storm at Bhatipara village in Dirai Upazila in Sunamganj in the morning. The storm also lashed three other upazilas of the district.
The deceased was identified as Rehena Begum, 30.
In Mymensingh, five people, including two siblings, were killed and six others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Dhobaura, Haluaghat and Fulpur upazilas of the district on Thursday.
Two siblings-Delwar Hossain, 12, a class III student of Gujirkandi Government Primary School and son of Atar Khan of Kandapara village in Dhobaura upazila and his sister Rahima Khatun, 9, died on the spot as a thunderbolt hit them while they were reading lessons in a balcony of their house in the village in the morning, local people said.
Three people were also injured in the same incident, officer-in-charge of Dhobaura Police Station Abdul Haque said.
They were first taken to Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
In another incident, a thunderbolt hit five people in different villages of Haluaghat Upazila in the morning leaving two people dead on the spot.
Rubel Karim, 32, of Parura village, and Jamsed Ali, 50, of Baniakanda village --- died on the spot and three others - Iysen, 11, Nurzahan, 45, and Iymona, 47, were injured.
On the other hand, farmer Kafil Uddin, 55, was killed as a lightning struck him at Bhita village in Fulpur upazila, officer-in-charge of Fulpur Police Station Majharul Haque said.
In Sunamganj, two farmers-Hossain Ali, 50, of Kanchanpur village of Dharmapasha upazila and Andul Jalil of Mollahpara village of Tahirpur upazila-died on the spot as thunderbolts hit them during a storm.
Over 100 cattle died and 400 houses were damaged by the storm.
