Nothing seditious in Satkhira remarks of Khaleda: BNP

Brushing aside the ruling party’s allegation that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has made treasonable remarks about joint forces’ drive in Satkhira, the party on Wednesday claimed that Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam spread falsehood over it. “There’s nothing seditious in the remarks of Desh Netri Khaleda Zia. This doesn’t suit the stature of a leader like Syed Ashraf to confuse people by making such a false comment,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.  Reacting to his AL counterpart’s remarks, Fakhrul said, “I’m not sure in which state and under which influence he made the remarks. But his comments were indecent and he resorted to falsehood.” As his attention was drawn to the AL spokesman’s remarks that they will take action if Khaleda does not apologise, Fakhrul said, “What the government is doing now are completely illogical as there’s no democracy and the rule of law in the county. They’re harassing our senior leaders by arresting and filing false cases against them.” He also alleged that a Baksal-like one-party-rule is prevailing in the country where dead bodies are found here and there regularly, and opposition leaders and activists are being killed and oppressed like what Rakhkhi Bahini had done,” according to a news agency.

 

The BNP leader also alleged that the government is controlling all the state machinery and bodies, including the judiciary and the administration undemocratically.

 

He urged the government to establish the rule of law and restore democracy in the country shunning the repressive acts. “Allow the country’s all institutions to run independently.”
