Nov overseas jobs for Bangladeshis fall 42pc

The number of people going abroad with jobs has plunged by 42 per cent in November compared to the same period last year as major labour markets are showing no signs of recovery, officials said Thursday.
The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) monthly data says only 39,607 people found overseas jobs in November, down from about 68,074 in the same period last year.
The monthly data revealed that overseas employment in November was 9.0 per cent less than in October when 43,334 people got overseas jobs.
During the first eleven months of the year, a total 4, 41,112 Bangladeshi workers secured jobs abroad, down by more than 47 per cent from January- November period in 2008.
The BMET data shows Dubai employed 22,821 Bangladeshi workers in November down from previous month's employment of 25,185.
Singapore employed 3321 Bangladeshi workers in November.
