Now 3 candidates in NCC Ward-2 by-poll race

Three candidates are now vying for Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC)’s Ward-2 councillor’s post of in the race as the younger brother of slain councillor Nazrul Islam has withdrawn his candidature. Abdus Salam withdrew from the election race on Sunday, the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers, said district election officer M Tariquzzaman. Three aspirants – Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam Beauty, joint secretary of Siddhirganj upazila unit of Jubo Dal Iqbal Hossain and Shamim Osman’s relative Masud Rana will contest the August 27 by-poll to the NCC Ward-2 which fell vacant following the abduction and killing of NCC panel mayor Narzrul Islam along with six other people on April 27. The bodies of abducted councillor Nazrul, his three associates and his driver were recovered from Shitalakkha River on April 30 while that of senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker was found in the river a few hours later that day. Police recovered the body of Chandan Kumar Sarker’s car driver from Dhaleswari River on May 1, according to a news agency.
