The first Non Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) Conference 2007 is going to be held in Dhaka on December 27-29 aiming to bring together the Bangladeshi scholars, professionals and investors living across the globe with a plan of creating a platform of NRB and local scholars.
Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed is expected to open the three-day conference as chief guest at Hotel Sheraton.
General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff, will grace the concluding ceremony as the special guest.
A 17-member advisory committee comprising the eminent personalities of the country has been formed for holding the conference to be organised by www. Scholarsbangladesh.com.
The key objective of the conference is to create a bridge between the scholars and investors living in the country and thousands of such individuals positioned at highly reputed and world level organisations in various countries across the world.
Scholars Bangladesh has been doing research for the last 10 years and has successfully created and maintained a database of 2 1,000 NRB scholars and professionals to help create a common platform for the NRBs spread out across the globe. NRB Conference 2007 is a culmination of all these efforts.
The members of the advisory committee include Kamal Hossain, Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, Wahiduddin Mahmud, Iqbal Mahmud, Maj Gen (retd) Moinul Hosein Chowdhury, Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Rokia Afzal Rahman, Hafiz GA Siddiqui, S M Shahjahan, Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury, S M A Faiz, Atiur Rahman, Maqbul Ahmed, Syed Manzoorul Islam, Muhammed Zafar lqbal and M M Akash.
The NRB conference 2007 will feature 20 different seminars on 33 national and international issues ranging from economics, development, information technology, agriculture, human resources and overseas employment, disaster management and medical science, environment, energy security, textile and garments industry.
The conference can create a scope for establishing a platform for the Bangladeshi scholars either living at home or abroad who can collectively make strategies and help in the development process of Bangladesh the way Malaysia and India are using the talents of their non-resident scholars and professionals.
Programmes of the first day of the conference will include inaugural ceremony, career fair, a painting and photograph exhibition and a cultural show.
The painting exhibition will display the works of Monirul Islam, a Bangladeshi painter living in Spain and Obaidulla Mamoon, a photographer living in the USA.
The cultural programme will be dedicated to Ravi Shankar and George Harrison, two internationally renowned musicians who organised a concert in 1971 at Madison Square in New York to raise funds for the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
There will also be a publication ceremony where Abu Taleb's "Gonotantrik Sthanio Sarker Ruprekha", Belal Beg's "Bangla Pora" and Nuran Nabi's "Born in Bengal" published by Scholars Publishers and Abdun Noor's "Bicholito Shomoy" will be released.
