NRB investment
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
NOT many non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) invest in Bangladesh due to unfavourable environment at the ground level. There is no mechanism, as yet, to tap the financial resources and expertise of the NRBs for faster development of the economy.
The government should put its act together to encourage the NRBs to invest. It could float special and attractive bonds to mobilise NRB funds for industrialisation. This is yet to happen.
The NRBs, who took part in a conference in Bangladesh last year, made some useful suggestions. The government needs to examine the merit of each suggestion to make a policy framework to attract NRB funds and expertise for the industrialisation of Bangladesh.
